Instead of visiting an expensive Halloween store or department store for your Bratz costume, why not make your own? It’s very simple and does not need to be expensive at all. The first thing you need to do is figure out what style of Bratz you’d like. Take a look at the toy store or at your very own collection. Overall, there are a lot of similarities from one Bratz doll to the next, but there are some variations. For a basic Bratz costume, just follow these easy tips and you’ll be ready in no time!
Start off with your outfit. Most Bratz are often wearing something bright and flashy! This should be a reoccurring theme in your outfit, so be on the lookout for anything with lots of glitter, sequins or shiny materials. Thrift and vintage clothing stores are great for these sort of items! Fake fur is another one to look out for. A lot of Bratz wear a shirt with a short skirt or long, form fitting pants. To top off your outfit, whether it’s shirt and pants, shirt and skirt or a dress, make sure to get a big, wide belt to wear! It will complete the outfit and tie it together, not to mention adding more pizzazz!
Shoes are another biggie! I suggest any type of shoe that has a platform to it, those should be easier to wear than high heel shoes and also give you a lot of height. Many Bratz also wear strappy sandals as well as boots. I’m sure you have something that will do in your closet, but if not, head back to that thrift store! If there isn’t anything there jazzy enough for your costume, you can always decorate them yourself! Get yourself some colorful, shiny craft gems at a craft store and glue them on with a hot glue gun or any strong holding glue.
Once you’ve found your shoes and outfit, let’s now move on to your hair and make up! This is always a fun part to any costume and with a Bratz one, you can go wild! Take a look at most Bratz faces, notice their plump lips? I don’t suggest getting your lips done, but, there any products you can buy which will make your lips appear fuller and poutier. If you don’t want to spend the money on lip plumper, whip out the old lip liner! The easiest way to make your lips appear fuller is to add to the top lip and slightly below your lower lip. Then just make sure to pick out a lipstick that is glossy and shiny, not matte. A hint of glitter wouldn’t hurt either! Don’t forget to add plenty of lip gloss or vaseline to make your lips pop even more!
False eyelashes are also a must! Wear plenty of black mascara and crimp them! You want your eyes to stand out. Adding eyeliner to the top lid will help too, just don’t go too heavy on your lower lid, it will make your eyes seem smaller and remember, Bratz have large round eyes! Pick out an eyeshadow that will accentuate your eyes as well, but don’t be afraid to go a little overboard, this is Halloween we’re talking about! Since we’re going all out, add some press on nails in glittery shades or hot pink and reds! If you’re wearing open toed high heels or sandals, make sure to paint your toe nails a matching color.
For your hair, do them up in big, wide rollers to give your hair lots of volume. Giving it a little tease here and there with lots of mousse and hair spray will do the trick also. Just make sure to wear it long, I haven’t seen many Bratz dolls with their hair worn in an up do. Another accessory Bratz are known for is fun and funky hats! You’re bound to find one you like in a vintage clothing store and it will make your outfit! If you can’t find just the right hat, add a pair of big sunglasses to the top of your head.
Now that you’ve got your outfit, hair and make up completed, you’ll definitely want to accessorize! Go all out and wear big, glittery earrings like hoops or something long and dangly. A cute choker necklace will look great as well. It will also give you the appearance of a big head, which Bratz most definitely have. Bracelets, lots of rings - even toe rings will add a lot more to your costume. In addition to your jewelry, pick out a nice big purse that doubles as a Bratz accessory and for all that candy you’re sure to get! It wouldn’t hurt to bring a stuffed dog or bear along like Bratz often have!
